STEEL AND GLASS WALKWAYS / STEEL AND GLASS LIFT SHAFTS

Busnelli participated in the realisation of the new Hospice in Bologna, commissioned by the Fondazione Hospice Maria Teresa Seragnoli Onlus to the RPBW | Renzo Piano Building Workshop studio; a highly sensitive project of 16 thousand square metres surrounded by greenery.

Busnelli was responsible for the steel and glass structures covering the horizontal and vertical pathways connecting the building's various functional bodies; walkways, platforms, lifts and terraces.

The lift structures were made of metal carpentry girders assembled by bolting and pre-painted by oven baking with polyester powder, prepared for the subsequent fastening of the lift automation components and the perimeter glass infills. For the laminated glass cladding, suspended fastening has been planned with supporting crosses and routings fixed to brackets made from laser-cut and press-bent steel sheets.

The walkways, envisaged by the project as glazed tunnels with high thermal performance, were made of metal carpentry and vertical infill and selective double-glazing. In this case too, a bolted and pre-painted trestle structure prepared for the assembly of the façade profiles was provided. The double-glazing, combined with a silicone joint, has been provided with high thermal performance for the correct management of winter thermal loads. Above each walkway, in order to optimally manage summer thermal loads, carpentry sunbreakers were made to design.
